WA Battery Rebates 2026

Claim Up To $7,500 Off Your Battery

Three rebates stack on a 10 kWh battery in WA: up to $1,300 (Synergy) or $3,800 (Horizon) from the state, ~$3,720 from the federal Cheaper Home Batteries Program, and a $10,000 interest-free loan if you qualify. This guide walks you through all three.

Three Rebates That Stack

Unlike most rebate programs, WA's battery incentives don't force you to choose between them — you claim all three that apply.

WA Residential Battery Scheme (state)

  • Synergy customers: $130 per usable kWh, capped at $1,300 (10 kWh cap)
  • Horizon Power customers: $380 per usable kWh, capped at $3,800
  • Requirement: VPP participation, approved product, approved installer

Cheaper Home Batteries Program (federal)

  • Delivered via Small-scale Technology Certificates (STCs), generated by your installer and applied as an upfront discount
  • Approximately $311–$372 per usable kWh in 2026 (before 1 May tiering)
  • On a 10 kWh battery: roughly $3,720 off at current STC prices
  • Requirement: Battery must be VPP-compatible (participation not required for federal rebate alone)

Interest-free loan (Plenti, via WA Government)

  • Up to $10,000 at 0% interest over 3–10 years
  • Requirement: Combined household income under $210,000
  • Synergy: up to $5,000 combined rebate + up to $10,000 interest-free loan
  • Horizon: up to $7,500 combined rebate + up to $10,000 interest-free loan

What Changes On 1 May 2026

Two Significant Changes Land On The Same Day. Both Affect Customers Installing From That Date Onwards.

Federal Rebate Tiers Down On Larger Systems

The Cheaper Home Batteries Program Reduces Its Per-KWh Rate On Larger Battery Capacities. The Rebate On A Standard 10 KWh Residential Battery Is The Most Affected Category For The Typical Perth Household. Rough Indicative Impact: $500–$800 Less Out Of Pocket On The Same Battery Installed 30 April Vs 2 May.

New WA SWIS Technical Connection Rules

From 1 May 2026, All New And Upgraded Rooftop Solar And Battery Systems In The SWIS (Perth, South West, Great Southern) Must Meet Updated Connection And Commissioning Requirements Set By Western Power And Energy Policy WA:

  • Emergency Solar Management (ESM) Compliance — Remote Disconnect/Reconnect Capability OR A Fixed 1.5 KW Export Limit
  • Increased Inverter Capacity Allowance Up To 30 KVA (From Previous Limits), With ESM Conditions
  • New Western Power WEM Procedure For Standard Small User Facilities Applies

What Existing Customers Should Know:

Systems Installed Before 1 May 2026 Are NOT Retroactively Required To Meet The New Rules. Your Existing System Keeps Its Current Connection Arrangement.

What This Means For You:

If You're Considering A Battery, Every Week Of Delay Past 1 May 2026 Costs Money. Our Recommendation: Get A Quote In April And Confirm Install Before The Deadline.

Vendor-led

You don't fill out forms, we do

What Signing Up To A VPP Actually Means

VPP Participation Is A Requirement Of The WA Residential Battery Scheme — But It's Also A Revenue Stream. Here's What You're Agreeing To And What You Get In Return.

Synergy

(SWIS — Most Of Perth And The South West):

Join The Synergy Battery Rewards Program With A Simple 2-Year Agreement And Earn Rewards By Exporting Stored Battery Energy During Activation Events, Typically Held Up To 30 Times A Year Between 3 Pm And 9 Pm On High-Demand Days. Each Event Lasts Only A Few Hours, And You'll Receive $0.70 Per KWh For The Energy You Export. Any Electricity You Draw From The Grid During These Events Is Offset With Energy Credits, Ensuring You're Never Out Of Pocket, With Credits Applied To Your Synergy Bill Each Quarter.

Horizon Power

(Regional WA Customers):

Horizon Power customers sign a 2-year VPP agreement tailored for regional microgrids. Earn premium export rewards up to $380/kWh capacity rebate, helping balance local network demand during peak periods while generating direct quarterly bill credits for your account.

Alternative VPP Products

(Synergy Customers Only):

You Can Also Choose An Alternative Virtual Power Plant (VPP) Program Instead Of Synergy Battery Rewards, Provided It Is Offered By Your Battery Supplier, Compatible With Your System, Delivers Value Through Credits Or Payments, And Is Supported By Genuine Grid Market Revenue Streams.

Key Program Guarantees

(What You Retain & Protect):

Participating in a VPP does not sacrifice your home's blackout backup. Your battery always reserves energy for outages, and event dispatches are capped and managed intelligently so you never draw high-peak power unneeded.
